Greek Pottery (Amphora)

Hello friends today I want to show a model of a greek pottery (an amphora)  that I've folded using the technique of flanged rotation solids... It is a simplified version of a real greek amphora, for example the foot (bottom base) and the handles don't exist in my folded model.
Here it is the original amphora I've used to inspire my model:




Here it is the folding work in progress. I've folded the model with standard copy paper. It was made dividing the pattern into 24 flanges. It brings a better round shape but at the same time is more difficult to fold:




And finally here I show the final folded model:

Flanged Pottery Ideas

I think that this image talk by itself about the idea of doing origami flanged pottery... Many authors around the world use this technique to fold pots, cups, dishes and many other kind of pottery... There are several ways to draw the crease patterns... There is a software created by Jun Mitani that does the CP and the 3D rendering of the model. By the way, if you understand a bit the mathematics and geometry behind this kind of works, you can use also software like Mathematica and AutoCAD to create your own models. I prefer this way, it's very simple to create them!. Mr. Robert Lang also created  some apps that needs Mathematica software to run and you can create this kind of folds... so, you can choose the better way according to your needs... The idea is reflected in this pic.

Origami + Mathematics + AutoCAD

These are some experimentations creating some origami figures, using curved folds with the aid of AutoCAD and mathematical functions... A very interesting work...In my opinion the most difficult part is to collapse the models because you need to consider the spatial placement of it, it means, you have to collapse the figure in all directions... I will be very glad for all your comments and sugestions to do better works... The models were folded with standard copy paper as a first approach...
